The new BMW R1300RT and R1300RS models, potential leaders in the touring segment in the coming years, are equipped with cases developed in our technical department and produced at our factory in Barcelona.
NAD and BMW, 25 years together, on the cutting edge of technology
The relationship between BMW and NAD (the industrial group of which SHAD is part) began over 25 years ago. The first project was the creation of the cases and seats for the BMW R1200 C bike. In the following years, many of the cases and seats have been developed for some of the Bavarian brand’s most emblematic bikes.
So far, we have manufactured more than a million cases and seats for more than 20 different models of BMW bikes. Models such as the GS 700/800/750/850/1150/1250, the nineT family, the r850/1200r or the K1600 predecessors have all been equipped with cases and/or seats developed and produced at our facilities in Mollet del Valles (Barcelona).
The new cases produced by NAD for BMW have had to pass more than 30 different quality tests: long-term durability tests; watertightness tests with the motorcycle in a wind tunnel, being sprayed with water from different angles; UV tests; vibration tests; electrical component tests and a long list of others before being approved.
Altogether, over two years of work have been invested in this project, from BMW’s initial concept to the start of serial production. This challenge confirms the excellence of every department in the company.
Variable expansion cases
NAD has developed a complete set of gear for the R1300RT, with two expandable side cases and a top case with a two-helmet capacity.
The cases include a variable expansion system that makes it possible to change the load capacity of the case, adapting it to the exact needs of the user. Variable expansion is achieved through a toothed belt, which transmits the expansion force to the entire frame.
Keyless system cases
The R1300RT and R1300RS cases have a keyless technology in common, based on transmitting energy through a floating magnetic connector developed by BMW and adapted in partnership with them to the needs of the project. This connection between the bike and the case allows, through a motor and an electronic actuator, centralized opening and closing, as well as ensuring the anchoring of the case to the bike and the activation of an interior light. A USB charging port is also provided in the top case of the RT and in a side case of the RS models.
The R1300 RS and the R1300 RT Police
For the RS model, with a much sportier concept, two non-expandable side cases have been developed, with capacities of 26 and 29 liters.
The new R1300 RT is also introduced in a Police version, which includes two cases, and a top case designed specifically for its police bike.
